In an effort to make Mondays more bearable . . . we are releasing a new Bethan cover for the next 5 Mondays in a row. This is the fourth Monday of the set. A beautiful rendition of 'Stay Awake' by Richard M Sherman and Robert B. Sherman - from the film Mary Poppins.

The songs in this collection are those we wish we'd had the inclination or talent to write ourselves, songs that make the regular rotation in our home, and songs that have become synonymous with our life as parents.

Here's what she had to say about this specific track :

When we first watched Mary Poppins, Sophie (my daughter) decided to add this song to our nightly repertoire. I'm always relieved when it's time for her to turn in, and yet we talk about the funny things she says and does and how wonderful we think she is when she's asleep. The song captures that feeling perfectly.

When we recorded it, we decided to give it a go in one take in our living room. Like a lot of people, I was sad and likely depressed at this particular moment. I couldn't help but think about the pandemic and all the eyes Covid has shut forever. The song felt true at that moment— more profound than a children's song.
