Let all mortal flesh keep silence, and with fear and trembling stand; ponder nothing earthly-minded, for with blessing in his hand, Christ our God to earth descendeth, our full homage to demand. King of kings, yet born of Mary, as of old on earth he stood, Lord of lords, in human vesture, in the body and the blood he will give to all the faithful his own self for heavenly food Rank on rank the host of heaven spreads its vanguard on the way as the Light of light descendeth from the realms of endless day that the powers of hell may vanish as the darkness clears away At his feet the six-winged seraph cherubim, with sleepless eye veil their faces to the presence as with ceaseless voice they cry Alleluia, Alleluia Alleluia, Lord Most High

O come o come emmanuel And ransom captive israel That mourns in lonely exile here Until the son of god appears Oh come thou day-spring come and cheer Our spirits by thine advent here Disperse the gloomy clouds of night And death's dark shadows put to flight Rejoice rejoice Emmanuel shall come to thee oh israel Oh come desire of nations bind In one the hearts of all mankind Bid thou our sad divisions cease And be thyself our king of peace O come o come emmanuel And ransom captive israel That mourns in lonely exile here Until the son of god appear Rejoice Rejoice emmanuel

O Holy Night 05:43
O holy night, the stars are brightly shining It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth Long lay the world in sin and error pining Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices O night divine Truly He taught us to love one another His law is love and His Gospel is peace Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother And in His Name all oppression shall cease Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we Let all within us praise His holy Name Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices O night divine, O night when Christ was born O night divine

In the bleak midwinter Frosty wind made moan Earth stood hard as iron Water like a stone Snow had fallen Snow on snow Snow on snow In the bleak midwinter Long ago Angels and archangels They have gathered there Cherubim and seraphim Round in the air For his mother only In her maiden bliss Worship the beloved With a kiss What can I give Him Poor as I am If I were a shepherd I would bring a lamb If I were a wise man I would do my part What I can I give him Give my heart Give, give my heart

Silent Night 03:26
Silent Night Holy Night All Bright Should auld acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind...

about

This crazy little Christmas collection started at band practice. We were wrapping up for the night and someone mentioned that it might be fun to arrange and record a few Christmas songs a la Bethan. After a collective glance at our watches we realized we had only a few weeks to do this thing so we set the ball in motion. We had three weeks to arrange, track, mix and deliver, which made the process exciting...and deadline driven. Turns out we all work pretty well under pressure, and we still like each other, to boot!

The most fun and challenging aspect of this project was re-imagining songs we've grown up listening to. Inspired by Christmas recordings from Julie Andrews, Doris Day and regularly filling our ears with Tom Waits and David Lynch scores, the result was nothing short of an orchestrated X-periment! An end result that we're extremely happy with. We hope you enjoy it, too!

All songs performed with love by:

Jessi Hall: vocals, snaps, silly things
Daniel Hall: clarinet, percussion, saw, guitar, among others
Jesse Hopkins: bass
Becki Howard: violin, vocals
Kevin Howard: keys, guitar

Produced by The Halls :: Recorded at our home
Mastered by Justin Collins
